Taalla juoksutapahtumat alkavat yleensa aina aikaisin aamulla, noin 8.30, mika on mielestani ihan huippua ettei tarvitse koko paivaa odottaa ja miettia miten ajoittaa syomiset ja nesteytyksen! Jos juoksu on esimerkiksi aamulla 8.30, herailen puoli kuuden maissa (jos juoksu on lahella ) syomaan puuroa banaanilla tai jotain muuta helposti sulavaa ja juon kahvin. Muuten juon vain vetta ja sitakin lahella starttia vain vahan. Energiajuomia en kayta ollenkaan, mutta siina 15km kohdalla otan yleensa geelin ja vahan vetta. Matkalla juon vetta oman tuntemuksen mukaan ja ilmasta riippuen. Jos on tosi kuuma nestetta tarvitsee luonnollisesti enemman kuin viileammalla ilmalla.

Juoksun jalkeen on hyva kavella ettei jalat kangistu, juoda paljon vetta ja syoda jotain, vaikka nalka ei heti olisikaan, jotta palautuminen voi alkaa. Juoksun jarjestajat yleensa tarjoavat bageleita, hedelmia ja energia patukoita. Myos "jaakylvyt" auttavat jalkojen palautumiseen, vaikka on kylla aika "tuskaista" alkuun.
September 23rd I ran my third half marathon for this year. This time it was in Jersey City. Its really flat run (read: boring!), but because it goes around Liberty Park there's a great view to Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island so its a must!
I ran it first time last year and I was glad that this time I manage to do it 7 minutes faster! I started a bit too fast 7.38min/mile, but because the weather was so nice and I felt good with my running it was hard to resist... Anyways... I was glad with 1.42!
Here its so great that races are in the morning. You don't have to wait all day and its easier to plan what to eat and when... Usually I have my breakfast 2-3 hours before the race and it can be something easy to digest like oatmeal with some banana and a coffee. I also drink some water, but not too close to the race. I don't drink energy drinks at all, but in the middle of the race I take a gel with some water.
After the race its good to walk, drink plenty of water and eat something, even if you don't feel that hungry, it helps to recover faster. Ice baths are so great too, it can be a bit agony first...
